There is nothing more important for a child than to be raised in a supporting and loving family. That is why as co-chair of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption, Senator Landrieu has made it a top priority to promote responsible new policies that will help to provide a loving home for every child who needs one.

Senator Landrieu co-sponsored a law that promotes the adoption of older foster children by ensuring their access to financial aid services. Senator Landrieu also co-sponsored the “Adoption Promotion Act of 2003,” to reauthorize a program designed increase of adoptions by providing incentives to states that increase adoptions from one year to the next.

Senator Landrieu increased tax credits for adoptions to $10,000 and make it easier for those who adopt foster children to qualify. She has also fought to make the adoption tax credit permanent.
